Accepting God’s call requires courage to follow. It’s normal to feel fear and self-doubt, but ultimately God knows we can handle the calling that God places on our hearts.

Are you listening for God’s call? Prepare yourself today to hear and respond!

Listen

“Go at once to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before me.” But Jonah set out to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid his fare and went on board, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.

Jonah 1:2-3

Think

When God said go, what did Jonah do? He took off in the exact opposite direction in a foolish attempt to beat God at God’s own game. My prayer is that you have heard clearly that there is simply nowhere you can run where God cannot and will not find you. My prayer is also that you’ve read and heard the many stories of our faith that witness to this truth over and over again, because this is the centerpiece of what we believe as Christians – we belong to God who loves us.

We have plenty of good news to share, beginning with the fact that the power of God’s call, love, and mercy are relentless! God has and God will continue to move heaven and earth for you – even as you’re running for Tarshish, because even when we run, we can never hide from God.

Pray

Every time I turn and run from you, O God, meet me where I am and guide me to where I belong. Amen.

Go

God’s presence and call often show up in unexpected places and at surprising times. We should all be changed by God’s presence each time we encounter God. Have you sensed God asking you to do something differently in your life? Have the courage to say YES!
