Ordinary Time

It is you, Lord
Who came to save
The heart and soul
Of every [hu]man
It is you Lord
Who knows my weakness
Who gives me strength,
With thine own hand.

"Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. I give to you not as the world gives. Don’t be troubled or afraid."

John 14:27

Think

“I give to you not as the world gives,” says Jesus in John 14:27. What makes Jesus’ gifts so unlike the world’s gifts? Peace. “My peace I give you,” Jesus says, and that is something no one else, not even the latest trending influencer, can give.

“Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world,” St. Paul says in Romans 12:2. What should we be instead? Transformed. “Be transformed,” he says, “by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.”

All I know is that I don’t know much, except that God is good. With the Lord’s help, I am learning that the more time I spend in prayer teaches me just how much more time I need to spend in prayer. However, this is how the Lord transforms us – when we open our hearts and honestly ask for that peace we need after humbly admitting to ourselves why we need it so badly.

Pray

Help and humble me, O Lord, that I may know your peace and love.

Amen.

O teach my heart to know Your Word
And treasure all that I have heard
O raise this everlasting seed
To bear the fruit of Christ in me
