Sometimes, even when we are very well in touch with our needs and wants, it's hard to know how to ask, or even what to ask, to get what we are looking for.

Maybe a good first request is for help in putting our questions into words, our feelings into verbal expression.

Reach out now to God and ask. Just ask, then see where the asking leads you.

Listen

"Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake instead of a fish? Or if the child asks for an egg, will give a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Luke 11:11-13

Think

“If 4732 donuts are stuck on the roof of your car and you’re traveling at the velocity of x, how much do shoes cost in wintertime?” This is how math problems read to me.

When I try to capture how much God loves me it’s like solving one of these problems. Translation: I can’t do it. Every measuring stick fails to grasp the enormity of unconditional love. God’s love is more vast than the stars in the sky. God’s love reaches further than east to west.

So it is with the gifts of God. When we converse with the Almighty and live in daily relationship with God, God will bless us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. You might remember these gifts from a song you learned as a child: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control! How much will we be blessed? It’s incalculable.

Pray

God, thank you for the Holy Spirit. Lead me to know and share the gift of your love every day. Amen.

Go

Go ahead and ask.
Just ask,
Then see where the asking takes you.

You may learn the answers are
Just what you hope for.

You may just as likely find your way
To even more questions.

In either case, keep asking.
Just ask,
Then see where the asking takes you.
