You teach me the way of life. In your presence is total celebration. Beautiful things are always in your right hand.

I was shopping at a home décor store and was amazed by how many wall hangings and pillows were filled with what is intended to be inspirational messages:

• Make today count. You’ll never get it back.
• Live every moment. Laugh every day. Love beyond words.
• Don’t dream your life. Live your dreams.
• There are seven days in a week. Someday isn’t one of them.

With each pillow and wall hanging, I found myself less inspired and instead feeling like I’m not good enough or nothing I do is ever enough. How do I know if I am loving beyond words or living the dream? What measuring stick is used to determine this?

The inspiration of Psalms is simple: to know God is to rest in God’s assurance that you are good enough. Some days you may be able to run faster, jump higher, and dream bigger. But on the days you can’t, rest. Nothing is more inspirational than having the permission to stop when needed.

God, who is worthy of praise, you never leave me. When I am at rest, I am fully able to celebrate who you are and who I am created to be in your image. You amaze me with your beautiful creation. Amen.
