Back to School

Pause

Going back to school means we’re back together, at last.

Breathing deeply, I pray:

May my eyes and ears and heart be open to others each day.

May my mind and soul be open to hear God’s voice in this moment.

Listen

“Happy are people who show mercy, because they will receive mercy. Happy are people who have pure hearts, because they will see God. Happy are people who make peace, because they will be called God’s children.”

Matthew 5:7-9

Think

Jesus teaches that we ought to be peacemakers who show mercy and love for others with our pure hearts… which means we ought to take our time to be someone who can make peace with others, show mercy to all, and to love everyone with a pure heart. Even if others disagree with us, we ought to make every effort to be peacemakers.

If we walk into a conflict-ridden situation, whether in the halls of our high school or on the field during soccer practice, we are to be looked upon as people who understand the values God gave us: our faith, our mercy, our pure hearts, and our ability to show peace. Let’s use these gifts with confidence, for we are God’s children.

Pray

God, help me to be the peacemaker you have called me to be in any situation, whether in class or at sports practice or in youth group. Help me to show mercy to others and to love unconditionally with a pure heart. Amen.

Go

God of Grace, be the light that guides us.

God of Peace, be the strength that carries us.

God of Love, be the tie that binds us.

Together.
