Lord, you have examined me. You know me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up. Even from far away, you comprehend my plans. You study my traveling and resting. You are thoroughly familiar with all my ways. There isn’t a word on my tongue, Lord, that you don’t already know completely. You surround me—front and back. You put your hand on me. That kind of knowledge is too much for me; it’s so high above me that I can’t reach it.

Think

The world is getting ever smaller. You can’t get away with much these days because someone is there to video you and then will put it online. We are living in an age in which we see almost everything. Sometimes this makes me nervous for our world. Other times I am glad that a video can help bring something to light that was hidden.

These verses remind us that God is everywhere and sees everything. I think we should take comfort in knowing that God doesn’t sleep and miss the best or crucial moments – no, God is there. When we have to confess something we did wrong, God has already seen it and is ready to forgive us. God goes before us, and hems us in – not like a prison, but more like a warm blanket. We are surrounded by God’s grace. Sit with that thought for a while today.

Pray

God, you know me. You know the good me and the bad me. I pray for your spirit to be moving within my life to help the good me to be the one who shows up most of the time. Since you know my thoughts, I will try to think them for your glory. Amen.
