Ordinary Time

Pause

We are on a journey to be more like Jesus – seeking ways to love God, love neighbor, seek peace, and do justice. This week's theme is about Being. In this moment, think about how difficult 'being' might be for many of our black and brown brothers and sisters... Now, listen for ways we can foster community where everyone can be and be together in grace, and in Christ.

Listen

Where could I go to get away from your spirit? Where could I go to escape your presence? If I went up to heaven, you would be there. If I went down to the grave, you would be there too! If I could fly on the wings of dawn, stopping to rest only on the far side of the ocean— even there your hand would guide me; even there your strong hand would hold me tight! If I said, “The darkness will definitely hide me; the light will become night around me,” even then the darkness isn’t too dark for you! Nighttime would shine bright as day, because darkness is the same as light to you!

Psalm 139:7-12

Think

The Psalm writer continues this theme of God being with us no matter where we go. This section starts with two questions that are answered resoundingly – wherever we go, God is there! We can’t get away from God’s presence. We don’t need to be afraid, because God is with us.

When I can find a moment to be right where I am, it is in those quiet moments that I take time to speak with God. And I have even started practicing listening to God as well. I wonder if the Psalm writer was dreaming like Jacob. I love the imagery used in this passage – “If I could fly on the wings of dawn, stopping to rest only on the far side of the ocean.” That sounds like a wonderful adventure. But it still makes the point for today that God is with us – wherever we go. Amen.

Pray

God, I take comfort knowing that you are with me. And I know that you are with my friends and family – spread all over – even if I can’t be with them right now. Thank you for loving us and being with us all today. I breathe in your presence in this moment. Amen.

Go

Take a moment and breathe in these words: “Suddenly the Lord was saying, I am with you now, and will protect you wherever you go.”
