Ordinary Time
By God’s grace, just as you are:
You are here.
You are known.
You are loved.
Who is like you, Lord God of heavenly forces? Mighty Lord, your faithfulness surrounds you! You have a powerful arm; your hand is strong; your strong hand is raised high! Your throne is built on righteousness and justice; loyal love and faithfulness stand in front of you.
Psalm 89:8, 13-14
Scarves are one of my favorite things to wear. I wear scarves year-round, even if it’s summertime. I wear big ones draped around my shoulders, small ones tied around my neck, and medium-sized ones wrapped around my head. Mostly, I like them for the pretty colors and patterns. But there is also something comforting about being draped, encircled, and wrapped. Which is why I was so struck by a phrase in today’s Psalm.
The psalmist writes “Mighty Lord, your faithfulness surrounds you!” It’s as if to say, no matter what, God is surrounded by faithfulness. There is no place God can go without God’s faithfulness going as well. To be loved by God means that even when things are bad, God will still be faithful toward us. Now that’s truly comforting. So let those words from the psalmist help you to imagine God’s faithfulness beautifully surrounding us all.

Spirit of the Living God, thank you for being my comforter. Now comfort those who need to feel your presence today. Amen.
Before you knew it, you were loved. Now, let the love of God help you live like you are loved today.
