Ordinary Time

Pause

Spirit of the Living God, make us one.

Spirit of the Living God, give us hope.

Spirit of the Living God, show us grace.

Spirit of the Living God, be with us now.

Listen

He gave some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. His purpose was to equip God’s people for the work of serving and building up the body of Christ until we all reach the unity of faith and knowledge of God’s Son. God’s goal is for us to become mature adults—to be fully grown, measured by the standard of the fullness of Christ.

Ephesians 4:11-13

Think

Have you ever asked yourself where you might fit into the group? How your gifts and skills could be used among others? There have been many times in my life when I’ve questioned the talents I have – or those I lack – in comparison to others’ gifts, which seem much more useful or greater than mine.

But this is not the truth found in Scripture. For according to Paul, God has gifted each of us with different talents and gifts for the purpose of using them together in order to glorify God. Where you might be weaker in one area, someone else is stronger; where someone else is weaker, you are stronger. We were meant to unite our gifts together through the power of the Spirit in order to work together for God. In Christ our efforts can be united, our gifts radiated, and our love shown for the glory of the Lord.

Pray

Creator God, giver of every good gift, when I doubt my own abilities and talents, remind me that you created each one of them for good. You have given me these gifts through the Spirit in order to be united with the gifts of others. Help me to use them for your glory and for the service of others. Amen.

Go

Even while we are apart, we are still united in Christ Jesus.

Go today, reaching out to those you can, showing grace to those you encounter.

Go today, with hope in a neighbor, faith in a friend, and love for a stranger.

Go today, a member of the body of Christ, in which we are called to Be One.
