Ordinary Time

Pause

Stop for a moment. Lift your eyes. Become aware of the needs around you.

Who are your neighbors? How might you share your life with them this week?

Listen

That evening his disciples came and said to him, “This is an isolated place and it’s getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”

But Jesus said to them, “There’s no need to send them away. You give them something to eat.”

Matthew 14:15-16

Think

I imagine many of us would respond like the disciples did here. They had been with Jesus as the crowds followed him and as he ministered to them and healed the sick. They realized that the people must be hungry. They were aware of the needs around them and of the fact that they did not have the food available to feed them! But Jesus’ response reminds them that the work is not done yet. There are still unmet needs around them.

Even when we are tired, our resources are depleted, and we have done all that we know to do, Jesus beckons us to not grow weary of doing good. Perhaps we are struck with our own humanity. The good news is that we are not alone. We can partner with others and with Christ to fulfill a need and to embrace those around us.

Pray

Holy and loving God, thank you for the teachings of Jesus. Guide me to see the world through your eyes and help me to embrace the people in the world around me. Amen.

Go

Go today with your eyes wide open and a new awareness to the needs of others around you.

Look for ways to Be With your neighbors today... even if not face to face.

And the wisdom and strength of Christ, who is With You always, be your guide.
