Ordinary Time

Pause

To be human is an incredible gift. At times we feel like we are on top of the world ready to conquer anything. Other times we feel so worn down and tired that we cannot take another step.

Remember that no matter what, we are God’s creation. God created us strong, capable, full of love, and easy to hurt.

So pause for a moment today and think about how to care for yourself and the lives around you with faithful love, grace, and understanding.

Listen

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth! You made your glory higher than heaven! From the mouths of nursing babies you have laid a strong foundation because of your foes, in order to stop vengeful enemies. When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made— the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place— what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them? You’ve made them only slightly less than divine, crowning them with glory and grandeur.

Psalm 8:1-5

Think

There are times when I find myself at the top of a mountain after a long hike or at the shoreline of the ocean, and I am struck by the grandeur of God’s creation. I feel small. And while I may literally be smaller, I am no less significant because I, too, am a part of the grandeur of God’s creation!

Whether or not we feel worthy, the fact remains that God created us, God knows and loves us, and we are important to God. I wonder how we can reflect the radiance of God’s wonderful creation—us!

For me, that task begins with glorifying God every single day. Don’t get me wrong, I often fall short, but when I try to glorify God and remember that God created me, it is easier to be loving, patient, and kind in all that I do. As we bask in God’s creations and look for ways to care for it, let us also bask in our own human capacity, truly one of God’s most magnificent works.

Pray

Glorious and majestic Lord, you created human beings with careful wisdom to be capable and magnificent. Help me to know that I am a good creation and that I am yours, so that I may glorify your name ever more fully. Through the wonder of your infinite love, amen.

Go

Go and bask in God’s creation;

Go and open your eyes to see what lives, breathes, swirls, and twirls around you;

Go and care for the people you love and for those you do not yet love;

Go and ask for help;

Go and show God’s glory through your incredible humanity!
