Ordinary Time

Pause

We pray to a God who hears us, who answers us, and who teaches us.

We pray to a God who corrects us, who equips us, and who sends us.

We pray to a God who is loyal, who is a giver, and who loves us more than we will ever know.

We pray.

Listen

So live in Christ Jesus the Lord in the same way as you received him. Be rooted and built up in him, be established in faith, and overflow with thanksgiving just as you were taught.

Colossians 2:6-7

Think

What does it mean to live in Christ? In this passage, Paul gives us a couple images. Imagine you’re a plant, with vibrant green leaves growing up toward the sun — your roots stretch down deep into the rich soil that is Jesus’s teaching and example and sacrifice. That’s where you find the energy to keep growing.

Now imagine you’re a building, with beautiful marble columns and arches reaching to the sky — your foundation and the load-bearing walls are constructed from the life and death and resurrection of Jesus.

Jesus is at the beginning, and in the middle, and the end-goal of everything we are. As we live our lives, growing taller and being built up higher, we should remember the God who makes all that growing and building possible. Remember God, your Creator; remember Jesus, your Redeemer; remember the Spirit, your Companion — and give thanks for the God who makes you stronger, bigger, and more amazing than you could ever imagine!

Pray

Holy God, thank you for giving me life.

Help me to grow deeper in my knowledge of who you are, and build me up so I can serve you more faithfully.

In the name of Jesus who teaches me to pray, amen.
