The Son is the image of the invisible God, the one who is first over all creation,

Because all things were created by him: both in the heavens and on the earth, the things that are visible and the things that are invisible. Whether they are thrones or powers, or rulers or authorities, all things were created through him and for him.

He existed before all things, and all things are held together in him.

Colossians 1:15-17

OK, this is a big deal. A very big deal. The biggest.

In Christ, everything is held together. That is, because Christ was first – before everything else – and in him all other things were made, it is still Christ who keeps and sustains Creation. Every powerful person, government, and institution is subject to the One who started it all.

That’s not only a big deal; it’s also a very big idea, one that people of faith have been trying to wrap our heads around, well, pretty much forever.

So, please don’t worry yourself too very much if you are among the rest of us who continue to have our minds blown by this big idea. Instead, it is recommended that you rest in the truth that Christ is in and around everything else in our world – in your world.

And Christ is in and around you.

God, help me to be aware of Christ all around me, throughout my day and in all I do.

Remind me that Christ is holding together the world – and me.
