Pause

I have a very big God who is always by my side,
a very big God, by my side, by my side.

You have a very big God who is always by your side,
a very big God, by your side, by your side.

We have a very big God O, who is always by our side,
a very big God O, by our side, by our side.

a West African chorus

Listen

When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made— the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place— what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them?

You’ve made them only slightly less than divine, crowning them with glory and grandeur.

Psalm 8:3-5

Think

There is a joy that comes with knowing you matter. All of us want to feel loved and valued. Most importantly, we want to feel valued not because of what we have but because of who we are. Understanding your self-worth is the first step to recognizing the worth of others. We are made in God’s image, and we are God’s image-bearers. Being God’s image-bearer means all of us reflect a little bit of who God is. God is big enough for God’s image to reflect in all of us.

It is God in us that makes us matter. God has always seen and sees you as someone who matters. The writer of the psalm contemplates how much God loves us and proclaims, “Who are we that you care about us?” The big God, who is always by our side, says to us, you are enough, and you matter. Listen to God and find the joy in knowing that you are loved.

Pray

Creator God, may my heart find joy knowing I matter and have worth.

Help me celebrate and reflect your image in me wherever I may find myself.

Amen.

Go

Go, keep walking your journey through life, and know that you do not walk alone as you walk.

A big God walks with you in all the places you go.
