Ordinary Time
I have a very big God who is always by my side,
a very big God, by my side, by my side.
You have a very big God who is always by your side,
a very big God, by your side, by your side.
We have a very big God O, who is always by our side,
a very big God O, by our side, by our side.
a West African chorus
You’ve let them rule over your handiwork, putting everything under their feet— all sheep and all cattle, the wild animals too, the birds in the sky, the fish of the ocean, everything that travels the pathways of the sea.
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth!
Psalm 8:6-9
Living in community means we recognize the concept of shared responsibility. Shared responsibility is the idea that all of us have a part to play in the success of our community. While our roles may differ, no one role is more important than the other. Our community benefits when you do your part and I do mine. Our big God has equipped us and empowered us to do what is necessary to make the world a better place for everyone.
This responsibility we have is not meant to prove our self-righteousness. It is not a tool for judging or condemning. This responsibility is a means to bring healing to a hurting world, grace to an angry world, and mercy to an unforgiving world. Our shared responsibility is not as rulers but as servants who care deeply for all God’s creation. May your actions bring hope and not hurt.
James Blay
God of all hope, may I take my responsibility to bring healing to the world seriously.
Give me the strength and guide me as I seek to do my part for the good of all.
Amen.
Go, keep walking your journey through life, and know that you do not walk alone as you walk.
A big God walks with you in all the places you go.
