Ordinary Time
I have a very big God who is always by my side,
a very big God, by my side, by my side.
You have a very big God who is always by your side,
a very big God, by your side, by your side.
We have a very big God O, who is always by our side,
a very big God O, by our side, by our side.
a West African chorus
“I have much more to say to you, but you can’t handle it now. However, when the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you in all truth. He won’t speak on his own, but will say whatever he hears and will proclaim to you what is to come.”
John 16:12-13
We live in a digital age and now have access to information quicker than ever before. We can find out whatever we want with a quick Google search or by asking Siri or Alexa. It has helped us grow as a society. It, however, also saturates our news feeds with conspiracy theories, falsehoods, and a quicker way to spread hate.
As agents of God’s grace and peace in the world, we must be truth-tellers. We must use our voices to speak up for justice and fairness. Through the Holy Spirit, God has given us exactly what we need to speak truth to power. We are not called to solve all the world’s problems ourselves, but we are called in our small spaces and communities to do all we can to spread the gospel’s truth. Just as only love can drive out hate, only truth can drive out lies.
James Blay
Lord, I know that there is so much I do not know or cannot know. I, however, know that you are a God of truth, and your truth dwells in me.
Help me not shy away from speaking your truth to make this world better.
Amen.
Go, keep walking your journey through life, and know that you do not walk alone as you walk.
A big God walks with you in all the places you go.
