Ordinary Time
I have a very big God who is always by my side,
a very big God, by my side, by my side.
You have a very big God who is always by your side,
a very big God, by your side, by your side.
We have a very big God O, who is always by our side,
a very big God O, by our side, by our side.
a West African chorus
“He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and proclaim it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine. That’s why I said that the Spirit takes what is mine and will proclaim it to you.”
John 16:14-15
Have you ever been on a tour of a place? Usually, a tour guide is either a real person or one of those voice-guided tours where you wear headphones. The tour guide is there to help you understand what you are seeing and guide you on the right path. The tour guide did not wake up one morning and declare: I am a tour guide. No, it took training and listening to someone more knowledgeable.
The Holy Spirit is our tour guide for living our faith in the world. What the Holy Spirit reveals to us comes from God. The Holy Spirit works in concert with Jesus to help us navigate living our faith in a hostile world. The Holy Spirit’s purpose as a guide is to challenge us to respond to a messed-up world. Our job is to pay attention and follow the Spirit’s guidance. How are you listening to the Holy Spirit today? Where is the Holy Spirit leading you to act?

Holy Spirit, thank you for guiding me.
Help me pay more attention to your leading as I try to respond with faith to this troubling world.
Amen.
Go, keep walking your journey through life, and know that you do not walk alone as you walk.
A big God walks with you in all the places you go.
