Ordinary Time
Loving God, open my eyes, ears, heart, and mind that I may more fully understand who you are and who you have created me to be.
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said, “A youth here has five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that for a crowd like this?”
John 6:8-9
Imagine that you are the kid in this story. You have heard about Jesus, and this evening you have packed your dinner and are going see Jesus for yourself. When you arrive, you find out that Jesus wants to feed everyone. The only problem is that there is no food. Well, except for yours. How ridiculous to even consider offering it! But something compels you. Despite the large crowd and your small dinner, you offer it to Andrew, one of Jesus’ disciples. Andrew speaks aloud what you are thinking, “What good is this?!” But you offer it anyway.
It’s easy for some of us to imagine how the kid in this story might have felt. Many of us often feel the same way about what we have to offer Jesus: What good is the gift I bring to the world? What do I have to offer that can make an impact? But when we find the courage to speak up and offer our gifts anyway, we too may be surprised at what God can do through us.

God, give me the courage to offer what I have to you, even when I feel small.
Help me to trust that you can use the gifts I bring to make a big impact in the world.
Amen.
God has intentionally and wonderfully made you.
God has gifted you to impact the world with goodness and love.
