Ordinary Time
Loving God, open my eyes, ears, heart, and mind that I may more fully understand who you are and who you have created me to be.
Jesus asked, “What is God’s kingdom like? To what can I compare it? It’s like a mustard seed that someone took and planted in a garden. It grew and developed into a tree and the birds in the sky nested in its branches.”
Luke 13:18-19
In Greensboro, North Carolina, there is an organization called Out of the Garden Project that began in one family’s home. Noticing that several children in their local elementary school were experiencing hunger, they decided to do something about it. A project that began around their dining room table, providing a handful of families with food on the weekends, grew into an organization that feeds hundreds of families every week.
According to Jesus, this is the way the Kingdom of God works. A mustard seed grows into a large tree, providing shade and a resting place. A small meal breaks into thousands of meals, feeding a hungry crowd (John 6:5-13). One family’s project to share food with a few grows into an organization that feeds a community.
Each act of love, compassion, and kindness, no matter how small, has a big impact in God’s Kingdom.

God, plant in my heart the seeds of love, compassion, and kindness.
May they grow and impact the world around me.
Amen.
God has intentionally and wonderfully made you.
God has gifted you to impact the world with goodness and love.
