Ordinary Time
May your soul grow deep, may your joy run wild,
May your heart know the face of mercy has smiled,
May your faith come to let you believe like a child,
This is my prayer for you.
Julie Miller and Bill Mallonee in “Last Song” (1997)
Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. So then, let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity, and especially for those in the household of faith.
Galatians 6:9-10
It was the first time I saw a woman preach. She stood at the podium, adjusted the microphone, and said, “Let us not grow weary in doing good.” Twenty-two years later, I still remember most of her sermon better than some of my own. Her words were powerful but the sight was even greater.
My uncle’s church chose to ordain a woman even though it meant there were threats and disinvitations to denominational events. Through all of that, the church kept inviting more women to preach in the pulpit and refused to sit in other churches if they did not accept women ministers.
Many sermons are preached with words, but the best sermons are the examples we live. May we never be afraid of the Big Impact we preach through our service and actions, even when it’s tiresome and threatening work. So, my friends, “let’s work for the good of all whenever we have an opportunity.”
Timothy Peoples
Lord, may I have courage to walk in impactful ways, even when others may not walk with me.
Amen.
May God console you, may God affirm you, may God shepherd you, may God delight you out of the inexhaustible stores of divine love and joy.
