Journey to the Cross
Walking with God every day is the pathway to blessing.
But me? I trust you, Lord! I affirm, “You are my God.” My future is in your hands. Don’t hand me over to my enemies, to all who are out to get me! Shine your face on your servant; save me by your faithful love!
Psalm 31:14-16
Mental illness runs in my family. Although all of us experience emotional ups and downs in life, for some it can be a chronic burden. As I walk alongside family members, friends, and young people in my neighborhood who seemingly suffer unjustly, my heart breaks. To see such beautiful people created by God trying so hard to do life against all odds demands faith in God through it all! It is easy for others to say, “Oh, just get over it!” But for the sufferer, the troubled mind at times can be the enemy. David knew the anguish of the mind all too well. The book of Psalms bears witness to this fact.
In our scripture today, David acknowledges this harsh reality and declares that he will trust in God. So, when you or someone you meet is overcome by the enemy of anxiety, be reminded to trust in the Lord your God! Trusting will give comfort as you rest in God’s hands. God’s unfailing love will shine on you and give you strength to persevere in seeking help.

Question to Ponder:
What does it look like and how does it feel for human beings to rest in God’s hands?
God, let your light shine on me! Let your light pierce into the darkest places of my soul. May your light shine in my home, my neighborhood, in my country, and around the world. It is hardest for me to trust you when…
When I struggle to feel the warm rays of your presence, will you yet help me to trust that you are present because you are God. Amen.
As you go, remember that whether you are on top of the world or in a low place, continue to walk with God. Step by step your path will be clear. So go in peace, knowing that whatever you face, God is with you!
