Pause

The Lord your God is with you.

God’s Spirit goes before you as you listen, think, and respond.

Listen

Therefore, don’t worry and say, “What are we going to eat?” or “What are we going to drink?” or “What are we going to wear?” Gentiles long for all these things. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them. Instead, desire first and foremost God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:31-33

Think

Isn’t it funny that the three things listed as the “do not worries” are food, drink, and fashion? In 2020, well, we’re just about still at the same place when it comes to worry. Food, hydration, and clothing are pretty important when it comes to planning ahead, surviving a day, feeling healthy and normal.

As you look to your day or days ahead, in what ways can you spend more time thinking about things that matter more to God’s kingdom? To a world that is suffering? To communities and individuals in need of hope and positive change?

You are practicing one of those ways right at this very moment. You are pausing, letting your thoughts wander away from your worries and into God’s word! As we mingle our thoughts and time with God’s thoughts and time, we move out of our own constant self-focus, and incredible things can happen. We start to see direction. Our plans shift from maintenance to vision. Our day is bigger, and the possibility of being a part of God’s work takes over our worries. Keep doing it!

Pray

God, I spend so much time worrying about myself. Even in my efforts to not worry about myself I am still worrying about myself. God, I want to take some steps away from myself today. I want to walk closer with you and to you and maybe, God, even into your world. Amen.

Go

Taking today’s moments into your breath, your heart, your hands and feet,

live what you hear from God today,

and tomorrow.
