Think

Spiritual growth is a funny thing. It requires action by us and by God. Revelation 3:20 says: “I stand at the door and knock.” This phrase from scripture tells us that God acknowledges the freedom God gave us. God doesn’t force us into a relationship. God offers and invites. God clears God’s throat sometimes as a way of getting our attention. God may even reach out to us through other people or events. But… God does not force us to respond.

As a result, our spiritual growth requires us to “open the door” and invite God into our lives and our decisions. Once we do, we see the amazing resource and blessing we have in God’s presence. God nudges us toward a certain decision, it turns out better than we could have imagined, and we think to ourselves, “Wow, I need to bring all of my decisions to God!”

In that simple interaction, we learn to turn to God, and we find hope in the fact that we are not alone in facing our problems and decisions. Like the psalmist, we rejoice that God never abandons us.

God, may my thanksgivings flow naturally from my decision to allow you into my life. As you come into my life, blessings follow, and I am transported into a place of praise. Amen.
