Journey to the Cross

Pause

Beloved,

Be yourself.

Be present here.

Be open to possibilities.

Be attentive to the Spirit.

Be renewed by God’s amazing grace.

Be encouraged for the unfolding journey ahead.

Listen

Jesus answered, “I assure you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, it’s not possible to enter God’s kingdom. Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit. Don’t be surprised that I said to you, ‘You must be born anew.’ God’s Spirit blows wherever it wishes. You hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. It’s the same with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

John 3:5-8

Think

Playing with bubbles outside on a summer day is one of the simple joys in life. The plastic wand serves as a launching pad, and the slightest exhale sends the bubbles on their way. To where exactly, we don’t know. That’s the fun, it cannot be predicted. Each bubble takes a different path, gliding in the breeze, dancing on air, ascending to the treetops. The wonder is palpable.

So it is with the Spirit. Jesus tells us it blows wherever it wishes. Sending us on journeys of faith to encounter people and show up in places yet unknown to us. The intersection of water and the Spirit is where we are called by name, claimed as Christ’s own forever, and sent on our way to love and serve.

Pray

God, thank you for sending your Spirit to lead me.

Thank you for teaching me that I don’t have to have an itinerary mapped out before I begin a journey with you.

Amen.

Go

Go.

Go gently.

Go in peace.

Go follow the Spirit.

Go, prepared to begin again.

Go, knowing Christ goes with you.

Go in the embrace of God’s grace.
