Journey to the Cross
Beloved,
Be yourself.
Be present here.
Be open to possibilities.
Be attentive to the Spirit.
Be renewed by God’s amazing grace.
Be encouraged for the unfolding journey ahead.
I raise my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. God won’t let your foot slip. Your protector won’t fall asleep on the job. No! Israel’s protector never sleeps or rests! The Lord is your protector; the Lord is your shade right beside you. The sun won’t strike you during the day; neither will the moon at night. The Lord will protect you from all evil; God will protect your very life. The Lord will protect you on your journeys— whether going or coming— from now until forever from now.
Psalm 121
We all have those days where we don’t know whether we are coming or going. We have days where we might not have a clue about what day it is. We keep our heads down to try and push through. Days we are exhausted. Days we are hurting. Days we have no words. Days we feel that we are over it, whatever it might be at the time. The good news is we are never alone.
Some parts of our journeys may be joyous and fruitful, filled with wonder and delight, and there are other times when we face unimaginable grief and anger. No matter where we are on our journeys, the way is paved by grace. There are gifts and blessings yet to be discovered. The best part is the One who accompanies us every step of the way will never be over us. Even in Lent we can remember Emmanuel, God with us. Every step of the way.
Neil Myer
Dear God, thank you for being my ever-present companion.
Help me to remember that you are with me. Always.
Amen.
Go.
Go gently.
Go in peace.
Go follow the Spirit.
Go, prepared to begin again.
Go, knowing Christ goes with you.
Go in the embrace of God’s grace.
