Is there anything more promising, more hopeful than the birth of a child? In the cradle, the world is alive with possibility.

The same God who birthed the world into existence, and all the promise that is held by creation, is still at work bringing new life through the Spirit.

Prepare yourself now for the possibility of your own renewed birth, for the assurance of something new.

Listen

O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it. These all look to you to give them their food in due season; when you give to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground.

Psalm 104:24-30

Think

The world we live in is full of amazing things. In some places, the ground is as flat as a board; in others, the earth piles up to the heavens. Some places look as if they’ve never seen rain, but in other parts of the globe the sea stretches as far as the eye can see.

Elephants and whales are huge, but some insects are so small you can barely see them!

Colors and scents and textures and tastes — God carefully crafted even the smallest details. God lovingly planned every hair on your head and every freckle on your face. The entire universe was born of God’s creative Spirit, and God’s Spirit continues to bring forth new life.

Pray

O Lord, help me to see the work of your Spirit in the world. Help me to see that you created all things and that you take care of all things. I need your Spirit just like the world needs your Spirit. Thank you for creating me. Amen.

The sun gives rise to the newness of every day.
The moon and stars provide just enough light
To remind us of tomorrow.

The Spirit of God is at work in every moment,
So walk in whatever light you have,
Giving birth to the promise of God in you.
