Ordinary Time

Pause

When roadblocks appear in your life, calm down and pray for God’s Spirit, the giver of hope and direction, to guide you.

Praise God that the Spirit is at work in your life.

Listen

“When I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as the Spirit fell on us in the beginning. I remembered the Lord’s words: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, then who am I? Could I stand in God’s way?”

Acts 11:15-17

Think

Although God’s Spirit is not new to Peter, he definitely had a spiritual experience in this situation. Peter saw first-hand the power of God’s Spirit at work in the lives of these Gentiles and acknowledged that God’s love was certainly big enough to destroy any barriers between the Gentiles and the Jews. At the same time, Peter reflected on his own “breath of God” experiences and even turned his thoughts to the Lord’s words about being “baptized with the Holy Spirit.” This was a profound moment for Peter as he realized that God gave the same gift of the Spirit to the Gentiles as God gave to the Jews.

When we testify to our faith in Jesus Christ, do we also proclaim the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives?
