Back to School

Pause

Take a deep breath. A new school year brings expectations and challenges, but also new opportunities. Before you start thinking about everything you have to do, remember that God is with you. Let God’s presence calm your worries and open your heart to hear God’s voice.

Listen

Be happy with those who are happy, and cry with those who are crying. Consider everyone as equal, and don’t think that you’re better than anyone else. Instead, associate with people who have no status. Don’t think that you’re so smart. Don’t pay back anyone for their evil actions with evil actions, but show respect for what everyone else believes is good.

If possible, to the best of your ability, live at peace with all people.

Romans 12:15-18

Think

It isn’t always easy to get along with others. There will be disagreements, misunderstandings, and moments of tension. In our scripture for today, Paul acknowledges this reality, but he encourages us to do everything we can to live in harmony and peace. Seeking peace does not mean avoiding problems. It means responding with respect, listening before speaking, and treating others with dignity, even when we don’t see things the same way.

Whether at school, at work, or at home, every day we have opportunities to choose between fueling a conflict or helping to resolve it. A kind word, a humble attitude, or simply admitting our mistakes can make a big difference in our relationships with others. Every conversation can be an opportunity to build bridges rather than erect barriers. When we seek peace, we bear witness to God’s love and help create communities where everyone can feel valued and respected.

Question to Ponder:

How can you help create an atmosphere of respect and peace wherever you are?

Pray

God, make me an instrument of your peace. Teach me to listen to, understand, and respect others. Guide my words and actions always. Amen.

Go

Go forth with a willingness to do good. May your words, decisions, and actions reflect God’s love. Every day offers an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.
