Following the Star

The unique message of the Gospel is that God wanted to

walk with us, eat with us, hurt with us, weep with us, and save us.

God came for us in human form and knows exactly what kind of forgiving, freeing, healing love we need.

Listen

Simeon took Jesus in his arms and praised God. He said,

“Now, master, let your servant go in peace according to your word, because my eyes have seen your salvation. You prepared this salvation in the presence of all peoples. It’s a light for revelation to the Gentiles and a glory for your people Israel.”

His father and mother were amazed by what was said about him.

Luke 2:28-33

Think

Finally the day has come! Simeon gets to hold the baby Jesus in his arms, look into his tiny infant face and gaze at him, sing to him, and speak to him gently with a smile. What a miracle that must’ve been – that God’s promise had come true! Simeon says he can now depart this world in peace because his eyes have seen the Savior – the one who saves us from all we need saving from. What would meeting Jesus do for you, in terms of letting you “go in peace”? If you met with him even five minutes each morning by turning to God in prayer, would you feel more at peace as you boarded the bus, set out to work, or got things ready for the day? Would you feel more at peace as you deal with tough things: that difficult class, the group that excludes you, the friend who’s no longer your friend? Peace is hard to come by without God. Meeting with Jesus first can change your whole day.

Question to ponder:

When do you feel most at peace? And with whom?

Pray

O Lord, you now have set your servant free to go in peace as you have promised.

For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior, whom you have prepared for all the world to see:

a light to enlighten the nations, and the glory of your people.

Amen.
