Following the Star
The unique message of the Gospel is that God wanted to
walk with us, eat with us, hurt with us, weep with us, and save us.
God came for us in human form and knows exactly what kind of forgiving, freeing, healing love we need.
Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from heaven! Praise God on the heights! Praise God, all of you who are his messengers! Praise God, all of you who comprise his heavenly forces! Sun and moon, praise God! All of you bright stars, praise God! You highest heaven, praise God! Do the same, you waters that are above the sky! Let all of these praise the Lord’s name because God gave the command and they were created! God set them in place always and forever. God made a law that will not be broken.
Psalm 148:1-6
In our Psalm for today, which phrase stands out to you the most? Do you see yourself as God’s messenger? Do you find yourself staring up at the moon, or craving the warmth and light of the sun? What is it about the stars and the heavens that so inspire people to praise God? If you’ve ever been to a planetarium, you know that it only takes thirty minutes of staring up at the constellations to realize how small we are, and how infinitely grand God’s universe is. All the psalmist can do is keep repeating, “Praise! Praise!” Sometimes when life gets really sticky or stressful, it’s good to step out of your small little world and gaze up at the sky. It helps to look beyond ourselves and remember how big God is. It helps to shift our focus to praise and wonder.

Question to ponder:
Do you have a favorite star constellation? Why? When you look up at the night sky, what do you think about?
God, thank you for reminding me of my place in the universe,
this big wide wonderful world you’ve created.
Help me care for it and protect it as you care for and protect me.
Amen.
Today, pay attention to the little signs of Christ’s saving work in your life.
