Ordinary Time

Child of God, you are called to a grand adventure.

Child of God, there is peace in this journey.

Lord, you have examined me. You know me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up. Even from far away, you comprehend my plans. You study my traveling and resting. You are thoroughly familiar with all my ways. There isn’t a word on my tongue, Lord, that you don’t already know completely. You surround me— front and back. You put your hand on me. That kind of knowledge is too much for me; it’s so high above me that I can’t fathom it.

Psalm 139:1-6

Think about the person in the world who knows you best. Do they know your favorite food? What about your favorite music or your pet peeves? God knows each of us even better than the person who knows us best. God knows our deep dark secrets and fears. God knows our past — even the ugly parts that we don’t dare share even with our best friends. We are God’s children, and God knows us better than our parents or our siblings do.

When I’m anxious about my past mistakes, God offers peace. When I’m insecure about who I am, God knows me and loves me just the way I am. When I’m unsure of my next steps in life, God has already filled the path with grand possibility.

God is our past, present, and future. Our relationship with God is all encompassing and eternal. God grants us peace about our past and offers us hope for the future.

God, you know every part of me. Thank you for being with me through every step of my life. Help me to feel your presence today. Amen.

In the glow of each morning, seek adventure.

In the shade of each sunset, embrace peace.
