Pause

As the old song says, we have a great friend in Jesus. Following in his way, we know deep joy, new challenges, and intimate companionship.

And there is more. In these next moments of quiet contemplation, open your heart and your imagination to learn about all you receive as God's beloved child.

Listen

Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in.

Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory.

Psalm 24:7-10

Think

Majesty! Triumph! Glory! Who is this God I serve? The King of glory! The psalmist writes of the might and strength of God. I am in God’s army. I follow a glorious and triumphant leader. Righteousness and love, truth and hope are the weapons God uses to defeat the powers of evil that seek destroy the children of God. Being a part of God’s army is not easy, but it is the best. The journey is one I do not regret. I know at the end I will be welcomed into the gates of rest.

I am reminded of the triumphal procession of Jesus into Jerusalem. The people thought Jesus had arrived to be their earthly king who would save them from Roman oppression. Sometimes, I too am guilty of thinking that Jesus is going to make my way smooth. I am not promised this. I am promised I will endure hardship and persecution if I follow him. I will be on the winning side if I am willing to serve the King of glory no matter what the cost.

Pray

King of glory, you are deserving of all my praise. Help me to always remember that I am your servant. You are not mine. Amen.

Go

May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.
