Ordinary Time

Pause

We hear your invitation, and heed, O Lord, your call; your word of consolation is spoken here to all.

It draws us to your loving heart; it brings us to your blessing, which never will depart.

from “Around You, O Lord Jesus” by F. M. Franzén (1772-1847)

Listen

The Lord is righteous in all his ways, faithful in all his deeds. The Lord is close to everyone who calls out to him, to all who call out to him sincerely. God shows favor to those who honor him, listening to their cries for help and saving them. The Lord protects all who love him, but he destroys every wicked person. My mouth will proclaim the Lord’s praise, and every living thing will bless God’s holy name forever and always.

Psalm 145:17-21

Think

I am a good student. Everyone I know would tell you that about me, because I love to learn. That’s a good thing since it seems like God loves to teach me just how much I do not yet understand about God’s goodness!

Every single day is a new chance to learn just how good God truly is. Sometimes God’s goodness is obvious. Other times, it may take us a long time to understand God’s blessings as such, because they are contained within a situation that first feels like a challenge.

But as the Psalmist says, our God is righteous and “faithful in all his deeds;” therefore, we have the opportunity to work on learning to trust in God’s goodness and mercy. Every day is a blessing, every hour is a gift, and every second we breathe is a chance to sing praises and “bless God’s holy name forever and always.”

Pray

Help me to live a life of learning, O Lord, that I may see your goodness everywhere and in all things. Give me the words to praise you boldly and proclaim your mercy and love to all. Amen.

Let gratitude be the pillow
Upon which you kneel to
Say your nightly prayer
And let faith be the bridge
You build to overcome evil
And welcome good
