Create a clean heart for me, God; put a new, faithful spirit deep inside me! Please don’t throw me out of your presence; please don’t take your holy spirit away from me. Return the joy of your salvation to me and sustain me with a willing spirit.

Think

“Create a clean heart for me, God.” God is creator and nothing that has been made was made without God’s voice. Only God can create a new heart. A physician may change your outward appearance, but only God can create a new heart.

“Please don’t throw me out of your presence.” Sin separates us from God. If you feel far from God, guess who moved? Perhaps your actions moved you away from God. Maybe you believed that God could not love you as you are. God wants you to know that God loves you just the way you are. Even with your failings and frailties, your mistakes and missteps, God never stops loving you.

I love to take photographs of sunrises, for they are always all about beginnings. When God creates in us every day a clean heart, we have a new spirit, new strength, new purpose and new direction. Our lives are books and every chapter and line in your book is about newness. May God sustain us as we walk each day in the newness of God’s life.

How do you feel about the newness of today? Where in your life do you need a restart or a reminder that God loves you no matter what?

Dear God, help me to own the fact that you love me just the way I am. Help me to live in the newness of your life each day.
