Journey to the Cross
In the midst of silence, think of a word or phrase that describes Jesus to you today. Hold to that word/phrase and settle into it each time you feel stressed, rushed, saddened, hopeful, or thankful, and be reminded of the love that created us and sustains us.
But to those who are called—both Jews and Greeks—Christ is God’s power and God’s wisdom. This is because the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
1 Corinthians 1:24-25
Power. Wisdom. Strength. These words are often interchanged in our daily lives but mean very different things. When you think of these words and your relationship with God, what comes to mind?
If we are honest, the other words in this passage often play a significant part in our spiritual journey too—foolishness and weakness. I can think of many times that I was impatient and made choices that cost me. Sometimes our choices don’t leave us much time to reflect or lean on God. We try to lean into our own strengths rather than trusting in the power, wisdom, and strength of Christ.
As we make decisions and journey through our lives, we can trust in God’s wisdom and strength. The power of God’s love is stronger than anything we face. Even when we make choices that are foolish or caused by a weak moment, God still loves us and never gives up on us. Jesus had to seek and lean on God’s wisdom as he lived out his earthly days, and we can seek and lean on God’s wisdom too.

Question to Ponder:
As you are walking toward the cross this week, what decisions are you praying about that you are willing to trust to God’s wisdom?
O Wise One,
may our thoughts be focused on you
and may our decisions reflect your wisdom
today and every day.
Amen.
May we keep the cross before us and not just during Lent. Let the cross guide our words, our deeds, and our heart’s desires.
