Ordinary Time

Pause

To live in relationship with God is to open my heart every day to God’s wisdom, love, and Spirit, allowing God to transform my life.

Listen

You’ve made them only slightly less than divine, crowning them with glory and grandeur. You’ve let them rule over your handiwork, putting everything under their feet—all sheep and all cattle, the wild animals too, the birds in the sky, the fish of the ocean, everything that travels the pathways of the sea.

Psalm 8:5-8

Think

When I think that I am God’s greatest creation in the universe, I feel loved. Regardless of my imperfections, weaknesses, and finite understanding, I understand God gave me dignity by creating me in God’s image and likeness. God honors us with responsibility and authority over creation, and that is no small thing. God makes us co-participants in God’s kingdom. God gives us autonomy and recognizes our identity as God’s image bearers.

When we understand the magnitude of what this means, our response becomes one of responsibility, humility, and respect for what God has entrusted to us. In a world where human worth is measured by achievements, appearances, and purchasing power, God reminds us that our value does not depend on ourselves, but on the place God has given us in God’s kingdom.

Question to Ponder:

Am I living up to my God-given dignity or have I allowed the world to define my worth?

Pray

God, help me to remember that you made me in your image and likeness, and that gives me dignity, value, and purpose. Amen.
