Ordinary Time

Pause

God, still my racing thoughts.

Help me to hear your voice.

Listen

Finally, brothers and sisters, good-bye. Put things in order, respond to my encouragement, be in harmony with each other, and live in peace—and the God of love and peace will be with you.

Say hello to each other with a holy kiss. All of God’s people say hello to you.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

2 Corinthians 13:11-13

Think

One of the central tenets of Christianity is the calling to share our faith with others. But what is it we want to share? Do we have something people want? Something they need?

When I look at Christianity today, I see many things I wouldn’t want to share. I see anger, division, judgement, and faith leaders who use the faith for political purposes. Are we offering the world anything different than what it can do on its own?

Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 13 remind me that we should have a faith worth sharing before we can expect others to want to give it a try. We should begin by learning how to “be in harmony with each other, and live in peace” (v. 11).

Do you live in harmony with other believers, even if their beliefs differ from yours? Can you fully accept and embrace other believers who practice their faith in ways that are alien to you? If so, you truly do have something worth sharing, something the world is desperate for… genuine agape love.

Pray

God, help me to simply love people… just as they are.

I leave the rest to you.

Amen.
