Pause

It's always nice to go to a place where you feel comfortable and at home. But it's another thing to leave a sense of well-being and venture into the unknown.

Jesus calls us to be with him, but his call is also to go, to move into areas that are unfamiliar and even foreboding.

Still, it is good to remember that Jesus' promise is to be with us no matter where we roam. That promise holds for you now.

Listen

After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."

Luke 10:1-2

Think

Do you work harder to get the job done when there are 100 workers and 100 tasks or when there is just you to do all 100? Besides the fact that we should work hard no matter the situation, we often work harder when we are faced with a difficult task all alone.

This is the situation the 70 were placed in. They may have been frantic at first, but I am sure they devised a plan to get the job done.

We are faced with the same statement: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” While there are more laborers than just you and me, it is still few. We have to come to God in order for us to be sent.

What is your plan for the task?

Timothy Peoples

Pray

Lord, equip me with the shovel, rakes, and gloves needed to work in the garden known as the world. I know that the harvest is plenty and the laborers are few but COUNT ME AS ONE OF THE FEW! Amen.

Go

Go.

Go where you are needed.

Go where you will find God –
In the eyes and
In the faces
Of God's beloved ones.

This is where you are being sent.

This is where you will find your work and,
Eventually,
Where you will find yourself again at home.
