Ordinary Time

Pause

Take a deep breath. Take another one. In this moment, God extends an invitation to you, yes, you! Get ready to respond to God’s invitation to quench your spiritual thirst. Get ready to drink.

Listen

A woman was there who had been bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a lot under the care of many doctors, and had spent everything she had without getting any better. In fact, she had gotten worse. Because she had heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clothes. She was thinking, If I can just touch his clothes, I’ll be healed. Her bleeding stopped immediately, and she sensed in her body that her illness had been healed.

The woman, full of fear and trembling, came forward. Knowing what had happened to her, she fell down in front of Jesus and told him the whole truth. He responded, “Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, healed from your disease.”

Mark 5:25-29, 33-34

Think

When we were kids in Sunday School, we used to sing this chorus all the time: everywhere he (Jesus) went, he was doing good. I remembered thinking Jesus must have been exhausted from always doing good. But when you think about it, you cannot help but be drawn to the lives that were impacted by Jesus always doing good.

Take the woman in the text, for example. She was an outcast, someone who people went out of their way to avoid. She has been dealing with this disease for many years and has spent everything she has on doctors who couldn’t help. When she encounters Jesus and touches the hem of his garment, she is not shunned or treated as an outcast. She is healed, and her faith is praised.

The good Jesus did for this woman healed her and transformed her life. Like Jesus, we, too, must not get tired of doing good. The good we do can transform lives in meaningful ways, including our own.

Question to Ponder:

What is one way you can do good for someone today?

Pray

Creator God, help me see ways I can do good for someone today. When I get tired or start to offer excuses, give me the strength to keep doing the good you call me to do.

Amen.

Go

Go spread the word. All who are thirsty, all who are yearning for welcome and belonging, all who need to feel loved and experience grace, come to the fountain of Jesus and drink.
