Listen

He came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, which was near the land Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there. Jesus was tired from his journey, so he sat down at the well. It was about noon.

A Samaritan woman came to the well to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me some water to drink.” His disciples had gone into the city to buy him some food.

The Samaritan woman asked, “Why do you, a Jewish man, ask for something to drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” (Jews and Samaritans didn’t associate with each other.)

Jesus responded, “If you recognized God’s gift and who is saying to you, ‘Give me some water to drink,’ you would be asking him and he would give you living water.”

John 4:5-10

Think

Jesus did not need to pass by Samaria. Any other Jew would have never done that. However, Jesus did. At the well he intentionally met with this woman, a Samaritan woman. He was not supposed to talk to a woman in public, not to mention talking to a Samaritan. Jesus did. His conversation was casual, not judgmental. And in it Jesus gives this woman the opportunity of a lifetime: to discover God’s gift for her.

That is the way Jesus wants to relate to you. He wants to meet you where you are. He sees you when no one else might. He wants to talk with you to give you the opportunity to serve him… and in that process you will discover the great gift he has for you.

Open your mind and heart to claim your personal and unique gift.

Pray

Dear Jesus, what is the gift you want to give me today?

Holy Spirit, please open my eyes, my ears, my heart, and mind to want the gift you have for me.

Thank you for meeting with me here and now.

God, thank you for your love through Jesus Christ for me and for us all.

Amen.
