Journey to the Cross

Pause

So then, with endurance, let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us.

Hebrews 12:1

Listen

Brothers and sisters, I want you to be sure of the fact that our ancestors were all under the cloud and they all went through the sea. All were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. All ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. However, God was unhappy with most of them, and they were struck down in the wilderness. These things were examples for us, so we won’t crave evil things like they did.

1 Corinthians 10:1-6

Think

Life is like a journey, and we are not the first to travel it. Our story is part of a bigger story that includes generations of people who have gone before us. Sometimes those people made good choices in their lives, and we can follow their example. Sometimes they did not, and we can learn from their mistakes.

The people described in our Scripture today were on a literal journey through a wilderness. Sometimes they obeyed God; other times they disobeyed and made life harder for themselves. They had good days and bad days. They had successes and failures. But through every part of their journey, they walked together.

We are not alone on our life journey. God is always with us, teaching us, giving us what we need, and showing us how to live our best lives. God also calls us to live in community with others who are on this journey. We will struggle, and we will both succeed and fail sometimes, but we do not journey alone. Thanks be to God.

Pray

Thank you, God, for the people who have gone before me and for the people who are on this journey of life with me now. Please help me to remember that I am not alone. Amen.

Go

As you go, hear the words of Jesus,

encouraging you on your journey:

“Look, I myself will be with you every day.” (Matthew 28:20)
