Following the Star

Pause

First, God said Christ would come.

Next, Christ came.

Then, he served.

Now, he lives in you.

Take these next few minutes to look deep within yourself to see the presence of Christ, alive in you!

Listen

This is why I, Paul, am a prisoner of Christ for you Gentiles.

You’ve heard, of course, about the responsibility to distribute God’s grace, which God gave to me for you, right? God showed me his secret plan in a revelation, as I mentioned briefly before (when you read this, you’ll understand my insight into the secret plan about Christ). Earlier generations didn’t know this hidden plan that God has now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets through the Spirit. This plan is that the Gentiles would be coheirs and parts of the same body, and that they would share with the Jews in the promises of God in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I became a servant of the gospel because of the grace that God showed me through the exercise of his power.

Ephesians 3:1-7

Think

In college, I joined a fraternity. Fraternities have a lot of secrets about them like handshakes, code words, and meanings behind their symbols that only the members know. When I was working on joining, I can remember thinking how cool it would be for me to know the secrets. It wasn’t so much the secrets themselves, but the fact that I wanted to be one of those that knew them.

Some say God keeps secrets from us… but that really isn’t the case. When it comes to faith, we all have the same access to God as any other person. That’s what Paul was talking about here. He felt God spoke to him in a special way, but his job wasn’t to keep it to himself or to only share what he knew with a few people. He wanted everyone to know everything he knew about God.

God loves you enough that God doesn’t keep anything from you. But if you feel you know something good about God, then it’s your job to share it!

Pray

Loving God, thank you for keeping nothing from me. Help me share your goodness to others. Amen.

Go

O star of wonder, star of night, / Star with royal beauty bright. / Westward leading, still proceeding, / Guide us to thy perfect light.
