Following the Star

Pause

O Star of Wonder, Star of Night, Star with royal beauty bright; westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light!

John Henry Hopkins, Jr. in “We Three Kings” (1857)

Listen

Arise! Shine! Your light has come; the Lord’s glory has shone upon you. Though darkness covers the earth and gloom the nations, the Lord will shine upon you; God’s glory will appear over you. Nations will come to your light and kings to your dawning radiance.

Isaiah 60:1-3

Think

On this New Year’s Day we’re often encouraged to make some resolutions. Some of them are focused on changing behaviors, working on particular relationships, and perhaps an opportunity to attend to our spiritual practices like reading scripture or setting time aside each day for prayer.

What needs attention in your life? What particular relationships need tending? What particular practice would you like to adopt as you begin this new year that will help you grow in the Light manifest in Jesus?

Is there some burden that you have been carrying around that just needs to be laid down or lightened so that you can walk more freely in the Light that Jesus shines?

Douglas Sparks

Pray

God of new beginnings, as we begin this new year, help me to embrace behaviors and practices that enable me to walk more freely in the Light manifest in Jesus!

Amen.

Go

Christ the Son be manifest in you, that your life may be a light to the world!
