Ordinary Time

Pause

What’s on your mind today? What’s on your heart today?

Rest for a moment, opening your mind and heart, trusting that God cares and will lead you.

Listen

The people who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion: never shaken, lasting forever.

Psalm 125:1

Think

The psalmist’s metaphor of faith that’s never shaken feels unattainable to me. What if I have questions in my honest discernment? Or sometimes struggle to keep faith?

I haven’t been to Mt. Zion but can imagine its imposing wonder in that holy space. I’m more familiar with the granite wonders of Yosemite in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and I’m awed by their presence across eons. While hiking each time I visit, I remember what a dynamic host these spaces are, constantly in motion. Trees growing, butterflies flitting about, bees pollinating, bears rumbling. We humans are surrounded by this busy wonder! Yes, these mountains are never shaken, but they are also actively hosting us all.

What if the goal isn’t some static, unshakeable, mountainous faith, but instead the goodness we might host through our dynamic faith in action and trust that God surrounds us?

In the ups and downs of our everyday lives, may we live out our faith authentically by hosting and surrounding others with our trust in God’s justice, mercy, love, grace, peace, and hope.

Question to Ponder:

How might your joy, wonder, questions, and challenges help you host others in the trust of God’s grace today?

Pray

Loving God, you surround me from this time on and forevermore. In my questioning, you are there. In my struggling, you are there.

You are here.

Help me to trust in your steadfast love today and welcome others to it, as I live out my faith honestly.

Amen.

Go

May God’s compassion and faithful love guide all our actions today!
