Ordinary Time

Pause

Our faith communities help us see God at work in the world. Together we make up the body of Christ.

Breathe in and hear God affirm you as a beloved part of the body of Christ.

Breathe out and give thanks for being a part of the body of Christ.

Listen

Don’t be in debt to anyone, except for the obligation to love each other. Whoever loves another person has fulfilled the Law.

Romans 13:8

Think

Keeping score, making sure things are even, seems to be a part of the fabric of our lives. “How many times have I called that person? How many times has that person called me?” “I need to invite that person over, since they invited me last.” “That person sat and listened to me when I needed to talk about_____, so I owe them.”

Sometimes in our relationships, we forget that the most important part is to love one another. Sometimes one person gives more, and sometimes the other does. It’s easy to fall into the trap of not wanting to feel indebted to anyone. God tells us the only debt we have to others is to love.

Question to Ponder:

Are there times when you are more concerned with keeping things fair or paying people back instead of responding out of love?

Pray

Dear God, help me to remember to respond to others out of love and not because of a sense of indebtedness.

Inspire me to love greatly.

Amen.
