Most important, live together in a manner worthy of Christ’s gospel. Do this, whether I come and see you or I’m absent and hear about you. Do this so that you stand firm, united in one spirit and mind as you struggle together to remain faithful to the gospel.

Think

In our scripture for today, Paul is encouraging Christians to live in a way that shows God off to the world in the best light. He tells them to be consistent. He wants them to be united and wants to hear that they are honoring Christ whether he is there or not.

It is not always easy to be consistent, but it is important. We need to be faithful all the time, whether people are watching or not. At times we may go up and down, even though we love Jesus. The interesting thing is, if we love one another and spend time together, we can encourage one another and help each other out. Fellowship helps us to be faithful to God and to the teachings of Jesus.

Together we can encourage our friends and others, including those we might find difficult. One way to help us love difficult people is to pray for them and bless them in Jesus’ name. It works! Relationships improve when you have a generous spirit toward everyone.

How can you pray for someone you find difficult to get along with, bless them, and see the relationship change?

Pray

God, I really want to live for you and be an example to others. Please help me to be consistent in my walk with you, and help me to be available to fellowship with other Christians to encourage them and to receive encouragement myself. Amen.

Go

Go in the strength God gives you. Be generous, not judgmental toward others, and in this way share God’s love and compassion as you live.
