Ordinary Time

Pause

From time to time, we all make decisions which cause hurt to someone we love. Our decisions can result in estrangement and alienation in our relationships, including our relationship with God.

It is not easy to admit our human failure or to seek forgiveness from those whom we have alienated or injured. The good news is that God longs to be in relationship with us. God offers forgiveness and grace, even when we fall short.

So come and rest in the grace of God.

Listen

So we aren’t depressed. But even if our bodies are breaking down on the outside, the person that we are on the inside is being renewed every day. Our temporary minor problems are producing an eternal stockpile of glory for us that is beyond all comparison.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17

Think

The older I get, the more I creak. As a teenager I was very flexible. I could do splits, played softball, tennis, racquetball, biked, and loved to water ski. The older I get, the harder it is for my body to do strenuous activities. You may not be there yet, but we all get there someday.

On the inside, we are different. As we grow older our relationship with God and others increases. Our understanding gets deeper and our experience of God’s love and grace grows. For those who strive to be in relationship with God, life becomes more and more meaningful along the way. And even when our bodies start to decline, our spirits soar.

You are growing up, and through your youth and young adulthood, you will likely experience some growing pains, both physically and spiritually. It’s a part of the path to Christian maturity. May God continue to grow the wings of your heart.

Pray

God, thank you for bodies of youth and the wisdom of age. Grow my spirit in wisdom and grace. I celebrate your forgiveness that lifts me up when I fall. Amen.

Go

God’s love for you is unconditional. God’s forgiveness is sure.

Live a life of gratitude for God’s grace. Offer to others the forgiveness that God has offered to you. By learning and living a life of forgiveness, your heart will be lightened, and your soul will soar.
