Ordinary Time

Pause

Who am I that the King of the world

Would give one single thought about my broken heart?

Who am I that the God of all grace

Wipes the tears from my face and says, “Come as you are”?

Matthew West in “Me On Your Mind” (2022)

Listen

“Teacher, what is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

He replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You must love your neighbor as you love yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”

Matthew 22:36-40

Think

Who is the most favorite teacher you ever had?

Take the next several seconds and remember them. Close your eyes and see their face, if you like. Try to recall an experience you had with them.

What did they teach you? Maybe it was how to count to ten, algebra, or advanced physics. Perhaps they taught you how to play Chopin or dance en pointe. It could have been a new language. Or a skill like changing a tire or a craft such as knitting.

Jesus was called teacher. Jesus taught and still teaches us how to love. This is the greatest lesson any person can teach and learn. Likely, the favorite teacher you were thinking about was like Jesus and taught you something about how to love. How to love a subject, skill, or talent. How to love learning. How to share what you love with others.

Teachers teach learners, and learners become teachers. So, who will you teach? How will you help others learn something new about how to love?

Question to Ponder:

What have you been learning lately about how to love?

Pray

God, thank you for those who have taught me.

Guide me to people who can teach me new ways to do things and new ways to love.

Give me the ability to teach others about love.

Amen.

Go

Just knowing you’re mindful of me

Just knowing you call me your child

It’s flooding my soul with unspeakable hope

Thank you, Lord, that it’s me on your mind
