Ordinary Time

Pause

Jesus is the Way – our pathway and our traveling companion.

He shows us where we're going, and how to get there together. He invites us to join the journey.

Can you hear Jesus calling your name? Will you follow?

Listen

Continuing on, he saw another set of brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with Zebedee their father repairing their nets. Jesus called them and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues. He announced the good news of the kingdom and healed every disease and sickness among the people.

Matthew 4:21-23

Think

Two more fishermen joined the Jesus Way alongside Peter and Andrew. James and John, two brothers, were at work in their family’s boat helping their father mend nets for the coming day’s catch when Jesus called them. The Bible says they followed “immediately,” without hesitation and without their father (the Bible leaves it to us to imagine what Dad Zebedee thought)!

From fishing for fish to fishing for folks, and from mending nets to mending lives – Jesus and his followers turned their abilities and attention to seeking and gathering people, feeding them with good news, and meeting their needs for healing and wholeness.

Together those who followed Jesus found their work transformed as they joined his Way toward the promised Kingdom.

Pray

God of the Way, I believe your promise is already being fulfilled, and that you are preparing me to join in it. Use every experience, every talent, every frustration and joy of my life to draw me into your work in the world. Amen.

Go

The Way is waiting for you. Take steps forward or even backward. Slow down or sprint or skip like a child. Whether your pace is fast or slow, steady or stumbling, Jesus welcomes you to follow him to God's glorious kingdom.
