Pause

It's hard, mostly impossible, to see the world the way God does. Caught up in our own lives, we see the world mostly from our own narrow points of view.

Perhaps in these next few moments, however, you can get a glimpse of what the Creator sees, and hear the message that God has for all the world to understand.

Listen

Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to him,

"As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the ancestor of a multitude of nations. No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the ancestor of a multitude of nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.

"I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your offspring after you throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you."

Genesis 17:3-7

Think

God gave Abram a great blessing, but it was a blessing that he would never fully see for himself. Future generations would inherit the covenant between God and Abram. The blessing of Abram was a blessing for many yet to be born.

We are creating the future today! It is hard to imagine what doesn’t yet exist. But the choices we make today will define future generations. We get to decide if we want to be part of blessing future generations. Our behaviors today impact the future of the environment, our health, our church communities, and our families.

We decide if we help to create a future of love, hope, and compassion or a future of hatred, fear, and judgment.

Pray

God of blessings, help me to look beyond myself and into the hope of your promise. As I look toward my future, help me to also imagine generations beyond myself. Amen.
